Abstract
When Natalie's little brother Evan Earl is born prematurely, he's earns the nickname Evan Early. No one can say for sure when Evan will come home from the hospital. To help her with this uncertainty, Natalie's father gives her a calendar to keep track of the days - each day that Natalie colors in is one day closer to the day Evan can come home. Natalie visits Evan in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and talks to the nurses about what they do, and her Mom explains how the tubes and machines are helping Evan to breathe and eat. As the days go by and become 'rainbow weeks' on Natalie's coloring calendar, she gets lonely and a little scared; her parents spend most of their time with Evan in the NICU. She finally gets upset by their neglect. Her Mom reassures her that they haven't forgotten about her. Natalie learns that, although her brother might always need special help and lots of attention, she can be a big help and teach him family traditions.

Abstract
Small But Mighty is a beautifully illustrated children's book written specifically for a mother to read to her premature baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Follow her journey as she cares for her baby in the NICU, experiencing the joy, grief and unconditional love that comes with the birth of a preemie.Every year, an estimated 15 million babies are born prematurely. They often require lengthy hospitalization that may result in speech and language delays later in life. Reading to preemies not only improves brain development, but may improve their vocabulary and reading proficiency as children and teens. Many NICU moms report feeling helpless. It can be weeks, or even months, before they?re able to participate in their baby's care. Reading "Small But Mighty" to their preemie in the NICU allows them to play an important role in their baby's long-term growth and development. And, as their preemie grows, this book serves as a reminder of the triumphant milestones accomplished in the NICU.

Abstract
Co-developed by the Society of Pediatric Nurses and the American Nurses Association, this practice-focused handbook is built around family-centered care. This FCC model and standard of pediatric healthcare practice focuses on the child within the context of the child's family as a unit, not on the ill or injured child alone. As such, it applies to the care of children and their families across settings and across specialties of neonatal, child, and adolescent healthcare. Evidence-based in its comprehensive literature search and grounded in an expansive concept of family, this guide is a primary reference for any administrator, clinician, educator, or researcher involved in pediatric health care. It is organized by the eight elements of family-centered care as originally described by the Association for the Care of Children's Health (see below) and accompanying practice recommendations. This guide was developed with the assistance of panel of pediatric experts convened by the Society of Pediatric Nurses and input from the Institute for Family-Centered Care. It complements Scope and Standards of Pediatric Nursing Practice, also co-published by SPN and ANA.

Abstract

Abstract
Drawing from Indigenous creation stories and traditional teachings and illustrated in dazzling watercolors, I Sang You Down from the Stars is a tribute to the bond between mother and child.
The narrator gathers gifts for a medicine bundle in anticipation of her baby's birth; a fluffy white eagle plume, bunches of cedar and sage, a quilted star blanket, and a small stone from the river. When the baby arrives, the mother shares the bundle with her child and reveals the importance of each item inside. But when her family comes to meet the new arrival, she realizes the baby arrived with gifts of its own and that the baby is also a sacred bundle: a baby bundle.

Abstract
The heartache of miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant death affects thousands of U.S. families every year. Empty Cradle, Broken Heart, Third Edition offers reassurance to parents who struggle with anger, guilt, and despair during and after such a tragedy. In this new and updated edition, Deborah Davis encourages grieving and strives to cover many different kinds of loss, including information on issues such as the death of one or more babies from a multiple birth, pregnancy interruption, and the questioning of aggressive medical intervention. There is also a special chapter for fathers as well as a chapter on "protective parenting" to help anxious parents enjoy their precious living children. Doctors, nurses, relatives, friends, and other support persons can gain special insight. Most importantly, parents facing the death of a baby will find necessary support in this gentle guide.

Abstract
Information on pressure sores and how to deal with them. In an individual with spina bifida some of the nerves do not develop properly, which results in little or no sensation in some areas of the skin. Without the warning of discomfort or pain from heat, cold, sharp objects, pressure, scrapes or excessive moisture an individual will be unaware of damage to their skin. A sore may develop quite quickly and can worsen rapidly if not attended to properly. Children need to learn the importance of personal hygiene to their overall well being. Parents should begin teaching skin care to their child at an early age, until their routine becomes second nature: * Perform regular self checks of the skin, using a hand held mirror to view those areas not easily seen with the eyes. * Keep skin clean and dry. Moisture and chemicals from urine, bowel material or sweat can damage the skin if left there too long. * Eat nutritious foods and drink plenty of fluids to keep the body and skin healthy.
