Abstract

Remifentanil is a short-acting pain relief medication that may be used during labour. Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) is pain medication that the patient controls, using a button. Remifentanil PCA is usually used by patients who either cannot have an epidural or prefer not to have one. This handout explains why your pain control doctor might recommend Remifentanil. It also includes a list of possible side effects for you and your baby.

The narrator gathers gifts for a medicine bundle in anticipation of her baby's birth; a fluffy white eagle plume, bunches of cedar and sage, a quilted star blanket, and a small stone from the river.
