Abstract
"As parents, we worry about our children - about their physical health, performance at school, the types of friends they have, and, of course, their mental health. Every day seems to bring new and expanding issues and disorders and troubling statistics about the rise of mental illness in children and teens. It's usually obvious what to do for physical injuries like broken bones, but when it comes to our children's mental health, the answers are much less clear, and sometimes even contradictory.
"Pier Bryden and Peter Szatmari, top child and adolescent psychiatrists, are here to help. Using their combined six decades working with families and kids - and their own experiences as parents - they break down the stigma of mental health illness and walk parents through the warning signs, risk factors, prevention strategies, and the process of diagnosis and treatment for mental health challenges arising from: anxiety, substance use disorders, eating disorders, sleep disorders, depression, trauma, suicidal thoughts and behaviors, psychosis, ADHD, and autism.
"The most important thing to remember as a parent is that you and your child are not alone and there is a lot you can do to improve your child's mental health. The road ahead isn't always easy or straightforward, but start here to learn how to advocate for your child's well-being"--from the inside front cover.

Abstract
This friendly picture book helps young children make sense of mixed-up emotions.
Happy, and also sad. Excited, but nervous too. Feeling friendly, with a little shyness mixed in. Mixed feelings are natural, but they can be confusing. There are different kinds of happy - the quiet kind and the noisy, giggly, jump and run kind. And there are conflicting feelings, like proud and jealous, frustrated and determined. With gentle messaging and charming illustrations, a little girl talks about her many layered feelings, ultimately concluding, 'When I have more than one feeling inside me, I don't have to choose just one. I know that all my feelings are okay at the same time.'
A special section for adults presents ideas for helping children explore their emotions, build a vocabulary of feeling words, know what to do if they feel overwhelmed, and more.

Abstract
A generation ago, fewer than 5 percent of girls started puberty before the age of 8; today, that percentage has more than doubled. Early puberty is not just a matter of physical transformation. It is also deeply psychological, with a myriad of effects that can put a girl at higher risk for behavioral problems and long-term health challenges.
In this reassuring and empowering guide, two leading experts on the root causes and potential consequences of early puberty in girls deliver vital advice on how to prevent and manage early puberty. They explain surprising triggers, from excess body fat to hormone-mimicking chemicals to emotional stressors in a girl's home and family life, and offer highly practical strategies, including how to limit exposure to certain ingredients in personal care and household products, which foods to eat and which to avoid, ways to improve a child's sleep routine to promote healthy biology, and more.
The New Puberty is an engaging, urgently needed road map to helping young girls move forward with confidence, ensuring their future well-being.

Abstract
"Ever since Winston Churchill popularized the term Black Dog to describe the hellish bouts of depression he experienced for much of his life, it has become the shorthand for the condition suffered by millions of people from all walks of life. There are many different breeds of Black Dog, and he is an equal-opportunity mongrel.
"Matthew Johnsone's illuminating, moving, and ultimately uplifting book provides insights into what it is like to live with a Black Dog and the strength and support that can be found within and around us to tame it. A Black Dog can be a persistent, debilitating beast, but bringing him out into the open is the first step toward recovery. Stunningly illustrated and deeply inspiring, this book is a must-have for anyone who has ever lived with a Black Dog or knows someone who has"--from the back cover.

Abstract
The Antidepressant Skills Workbook (ASW) is a self-care manual is based on the experience of the authors and on scientific research about which strategies work best in managing depression. It provides an overview of depression, explains how it can be effectively managed according to the best available research, and gives a step-by-step guide to changing patterns that trigger depression.
In this self-care guide, we show how to use cognitive and behavioural methods to make important changes in thinking and actions that help one to emerge from depression and make it less likely to recur. These methods can be used in combination with depression treatments, increasing their effectiveness.
Note that for most people with serious depression, use of this self-help guide alone will not be sufficient to resolve the depression. People with serious depression should obtain treatment with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or antidepressant medication.
ASW is intended for:
- Individuals with depressed mood
- Concerned partners, family members or friends who want to help a depressed individual
- Clinical providers that would like to use the manual as an adjunct to their treatment
This book is meant to provide accurate information about depression. It is not a psychological or medical treatment, and is not a replacement for treatment where this is needed. If expert assistance or treatment is needed, the services of a competent professional should be sought.
Funding for this book was provided through grants from the Ministry of Health, and BC Mental Health and Addiction Services, an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority, province of British Columbia, Canada.
Note: This publication is designed to provide accurate and authoritative information in regard to the subject matter covered. It is provided with the understanding that the publisher is not engaged in rendering psychological or other professional services. If expert assistance or treatment is needed, the services of a competent professional should be sought.

Abstract
Why is it easier to ruminate over hurt feelings than it is to bask in the warmth of being appreciated? Because your brain evolved to learn quickly from bad experiences and slowly from good ones, but you can change this.
Life isn?t easy, and having a brain wired to take in the bad and ignore the good makes us worried, irritated, and stressed, instead of confident, secure, and happy. But each day is filled with opportunities to build inner strengths and Dr. Rick Hanson, an acclaimed clinical psychologist, shows what you can do to override the brain?s default pessimism.
Hardwiring Happiness lays out a simple method that uses the hidden power of everyday experiences to build new neural structures full of happiness, love, confidence, and peace. You?ll learn to see through the lies your brain tells you. Dr. Hanson?s four steps build strengths into your brain to make contentment and a powerful sense of resilience the new normal. In just minutes a day, you can transform your brain into a refuge and power center of calm and happiness.

Abstract
Children and adolescents with chronic illnesses, particularly those accompanied by debilitating, painful, and/or fatiguing symptoms, face challenges that may prove disruptive to physical, psychological, and social development. Based on extensive research and clinical expertise, Children's Health and Illness Recovery Program (CHIRP) is an effective treatment program designed to build and maintain independence in young people with chronic illness.
This Teen and Family Workbook provides proven treatment activities designed to combat the additional stress faced by youth coping with long-term health problems. These tasks target key areas for improvement in physical functioning, school functioning, and personal functioning and support the creation of new tools for managing the impact of illness, such as stress management, coping and relaxation techniques, and communication skills. In-session and take-home activities outlined in this workbook are meant to accompany the companion CHIRP Clinician Guide. With the use of this workbook and supported by a network of clinicians, healthcare specialists, and school professionals, adolescents and their families can return to a better quality of life.

Coping with Chronic Illness-Children
Abstract
Youth with chronic illnesses face challenges that may prove disruptive to physical, psychological, and social development. Based on extensive research and clinical expertise, Children's Health and Illness Recovery Program (CHIRP) is an interdisciplinary cognitive behavioral and family systems-based treatment program designed to maximize the independent functioning of teens with chronic illness.
This Clinician Guide offers a detailed outline for implementing this manualized intervention and provides clear guidance as to the philosophy, pragmatics, and art of working with challenging pediatric conditions. Designed to accompany the CHIRP Teen and Family Workbook, this book addresses specific assessment measures and tools needed to establish a collaborative treatment team approach that incorporates the skills of the CHIRP clinician, primary and specialty care providers, and roles of other healthcare (physical therapists, occupational therapists, etc.) and educational professionals critical to the successful management and treatment of these youth.

Abstract
"Drawing on her own deeply personal experiences, Ania Bula explores what it is like to live with unseen chronic disabilities. She paints a vibrant picture of what it is like to be diagnosed with two life-long debilitating conditions as a young adult and relates the challenges and frustrations of dealing with predatory alternative medicine practitioners, arrogant doctors, indifferent bureaucracies, and well-meaning friends and family who always seem to say either the wrong thing-or nothing at all. As she discovered, suddenly everyone's aunt is a health expert and everyone's fad diet a cure. Making matters worse, her physical torment quickly translated into mental stresses. Relationships became strained, while others, including all-important romantic ones, never had a chance to start at all. Wading through a constant stream of ignorance and lies, in a desperate attempt to find peace, to stop the pain, and to return to a more normal life, she submits to being stuffed with powders and magic potions, poked and prodded, and even "faith healed." With honesty and humor, she shares her journey of pain, suffering, and, ultimately, coping, both to help others gain some understanding about what it is like to live with chronic illness-and to help those who might similarly suffer feel less alone, so that they too might start living again.
"Drawing on the author's personal experiences with her own physical and mental health struggles, the book explores what it is like to live with chronic disabilities as a young adult"-- Provided by publisher

"You DonÌt Look Sick chronicles one personÌs true-life story of illness and her physicians compassionate commentary as they journey through the four stages of chronic illnessÛGetting Sick, Being Sick, Grief and Acceptance and Living Well. The authors address such practical aspects as hiring a doctor, managing chronic pain, coping with grief and loss of function, winning battles with health and disability insurers, countering the social bias against the chronically ill, and recognizing the limitations of chronic illness care and charting a path for change and more. This warmhearted resource helps you focus on building a meaningful life as opposed to a life of frustration and fear. This book is thoroughly revised and updated based upon feedback from readers of the first edition. The authors have added a new section on Grief and Acceptance, address the passage of the Affordable Health Care Act and Dr. Overman has added practical travel tips that bring organization and focus to each phase of the journey.
