Planet Cancer is an honest, down-to-earth guide to living in this new world, from Diagnosis to Post-Treatment. Each chapter is informed by Planet Cancer’s voice—authoritative, funny, friendly, no-nonsense. Experts address issues from all sides around bedrock “What It’s Really Like” essays: deeply personal, unflinching, and often hilarious pieces written by people who actually experienced on Planet Cancer things like banking sperm, adopting a child, or undergoing brain radiation. The book, enlivened with quotes and real-life stories from Planet Cancer members, gives the uninitiated a sense of community and removes some of the mystery and fear of the unknown.

Abstract
Growing up the son of a professional hockey player - Tie Domi - Max saw from an early age what it took to make the NHL: grit, talent, and the support of a team. Over countless hours in the garage, at the rink, and in the gym, Max chased his dream. It seemed that Max was born to be on the ice.
But then, when he was twelve years old, Max started getting sick. And sicker. Eventually, he and his family learned the truth: Max had type 1 diabetes.
Overnight, Max and his family found their lives upended. All Max wanted was to be a normal kid, but suddenly, the simplest things - a game of basketball with friends, a family meal, a school field trip - were complicated with a thousand different considerations.
As he struggled to find his new normal, Max slowly began to realize that overcoming his disease demanded the same qualities that it took to be a hockey player - mental and physical toughness, maturity, and the love and care of family and friends. Bit by bit, he learned - sometimes the hard way - not just to control his diabetes, but to turn it into an advantage. If managing his disease was going to demand that Max be stronger, more prepared, and more disciplined than anyone else, then he wouldn't just be good at those things: he'd be the best. He'd do whatever it took to move him closer to his dream of playing in the NHL.

Abstract
Sophie is a strong and brave little girl who talks about how she had cancer at a very young age. Sophie takes you on a journey of her time at the hospital, her battle with cancer and a brief period of her life after, in remission. She is excited to share her story with other children to help them be strong and brave as well.
Safia (Sophie) was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia at the age of 4 and has been in remission since August 1994. Safia always says, "It's because of BC Children's Hospital that I am alive." Safia wrote this book to help other children who are fighting the same battle she was at a young age. Proceeds from this book will be donated to the Michael Cuccione Childhood Cancer Research Program at BC Children's Hospital.

Abstract
Every parent wants the same thing: for their child to enjoy a long and fulfilling life. But what happens when things don't go according to plan? What happens when parents have to become advocates for their child's healthcare needs? Who decides what is in a child's 'best interests'?
Stephanie Nimmo faced these questions first-hand when her daughter, Daisy, was diagnosed with a life-limiting condition as a baby. Seen through the lens of Stephanie's own experiences, this sensitive book delves into the complex world of medical ethics and pediatric palliative care. From recognizing tipping points to the importance of building relationships with palliative care teams well before crisis, this book explores how medical professionals can better support families throughout their child's care.
Interviews with clinicians and snapshots from the lives of patients' families provide insight into the realities of life on both sides of the hospital bed. Compassionate explanations of the conflicting pressures in the hospital system foster understanding and help medical professionals and families work together.

Abstract
On a Saturday morning at the end of November 2008, a young family suffered the loss of two sons and the permanent paralysis of another as a result of an automobile accident. Rather than tear the family apart, the tragedy drew them closer and touched the hearts of people in and out of their Catholic community. The boys' father began writing to express the painful emotions he felt and the faith that supported him. These poems and reflections, though heart-wrenching, have been presented in the hope they may bring comfort to other victims of tragedy by witnessing to the healing and transforming power of faith, family and love.
