Abstract

Both congenital and acquired hypothyroidism are explained in this booklet. The effect of thyroid deficiency on the infant and on the growing child is outlined in detail. Diagnostic tests are reviewed in the context of the hypothalamic–pituitary–thyroid feedback system.
