The BSR program was created to address the need for effective social skills programming. The BSR program is a systematic social skills program that addresses both social-cognitive processing and social skill performance. The BSR-3 book provides readers with a conceptual framework that will improve their understanding of social functioning in youth with autism and other social challenges. The book will teach readers how to assess and teach social skills and activate social-cognitive processing in both children and adolescents.
Many parents are tremendously concerned about their child's social functioning and their future quality of life. They see their children struggling to build and maintain social relationships and experiencing peer failure, rejection, and relentless bullying on a regular basis. Most importantly, they see their children dealing with intense social anxiety, depression, and social isolation. Unfortunately, social skill interventions are often designed merely as a reaction to problem behaviors. A book that aims at proving that training preschoolers with flash cards and attempting to hurry intellectual development doesn't pay off. In fact, the authors claim, kids who are pressured early on to join the academic rat race don't fair any better than children who are allowed to take their time. Alarmed by the current trend toward creating baby Einsteins, the book urges parents to step back and practice the "Three R's: Reflect, Resist, and Recenter." Instead of pushing preschoolers into academically oriented programs that focus on early achievement, the authors suggest that children learn best through simple playtime, which enhances problem solving skills, attention span, social development and creativity. The authors walk parents through much of the recent research on the way children learn, debunking such myths as the Mozart effect, and pointing out that much learning unravels naturally, programmed through centuries of evolution.

Circles involves categorizing social roles and designating the colour circle with its associated Three "T's", Touch, Talk, and Trust. Video mini-dramas serve as illustrations of common social relationships and display typical touching behaviours as well as conversation levels and degrees of safety. In Circles, the emphasis is on matching the social role with the appropriate circle colour and teaching students to model behaviours that are parallel to those seen on the video. Part 1 lays the foundation for making distinctions among the various kinds of relationships that each person has.
