Abstract
"The most up-to-date, comprehensive treatment guide to fibromyalgia, by a renowned physician who herself has the condition
"If you suffer from fibromyalgia and are struggling to get help from your doctor, you're far from alone. Ten million Americans experience the widespread muscle pain, profound fatigue, and fuzzy brain ('fibrofog') that have long frustrated both patients and doctors. In this unique resource, Ginevra Liptan, M.D., shares a cutting-edge new approach that goes far beyond mainstream medical knowledge to produce dramatic symptom improvement.
"Dr. Liptan's program incorporates clinically proven therapies from both alternative and conventional medicine, along with the latest research on experimental options like medical marijuana. Since many health care providers have limited fibromyalgia expertise, The FibroManual includes a thoroughly sourced 'health care provider guide' that enables readers to help their doctors help them.
"Alleviate fibromyalgia symptoms in four simple steps (Rest, Repair, Rebalance, and Reduce) and you will
- restore deep, restful sleep
- achieve long-lasting pain relief
- optimize hormone and energy balance
- reduce fatigue
"This accessible and empowering resource provides essential information about understanding and treating fibromyalgia from a physician who, as both patient and provider, understands the illness from the inside."--Provided by publisher.

"This book is designed to help you manage your pain so that you can get on with living a satisfying, fulfilling life. Chronic pain includes many types of conditions from a variety of causes. Despite these differences, all readers of this book have one very important thing in common ? you are living with pain every day. To help you discover strategies and skills that will make a difference, this book emphasizes four concepts:
"1. Each person with chronic pain is unique. There is no one treatment or approach that is right for everybody.
"2. There are a number of things you can do to feel better. These things will not eliminate pain, but they will help you to better manage pain, and help you to become more active and more involved in life.
"3. With knowledge and experimentation, you are the best judge of which self-management tools and techniques are best for you.
"4. The responsibility for managing your chronic pain day-to-day rests with you, not anybody else. Many people can be of help to you ? your family and friends, your health care team. But, in the end, the responsibility for self-management is yours.
"Acknowledging that overcoming chronic pain is a daily challenge, this book provides you with the self-management tools to help you meet that challenge"--from Publisher

Abstract
Regardless of whether your chronic pain includes endometriosis, IC, or IBS, or a combination of all of these, following an anti-inflammatory diet can help to reduce the intensity of the pain you are experiencing. It is also essential to include lifestyle changes, such as increased activity and exercise as well as stress reduction. Stress reduction helps to calm the nervous system, which can then reduce inflammation and pain.

Abstract
"Parents of a child in pain want nothing more than to offer immediate comfort. But a child with chronic or recurring pain requires much more. His or her parents need skills and strategies not only for increasing comfort but also for helping their child deal with an array of pain-related challenges, such as school disruption, sleep disturbance, and difficulties with peers. This essential guide, written by an expert in pediatric pain management, is the practical, accessible, and comprehensive resource that families and caregivers have been awaiting. It offers in-the-moment strategies for managing a child?s pain along with expert advice for fostering long-term comfort.
"Dr. Rachael Coakley, a clinical pediatric psychologist who works exclusively with families of children with chronic or recurrent pain, provides a set of research-proven strategies?some surprisingly counter-intuitive?to achieve positive results quickly and lastingly. Whether the pain is disease-related, the result of an injury or surgery, or caused by another condition or syndrome, this book offers what every parent of a child in pain most needs: effective methods for reversing the cycle of chronic pain"--from the Publisher.

Abstract
"'Let your illness be your spiritual teacher!' Make a statement like that to someone who's struggled for years with, say, rheumatoid arthritis, and be prepared for an eye roll (at best). To Peter Fernando's credit, he makes that statement, and no such impulse arises. We believe him because he's been there himself and because he backs up the statements with his own real experiences and with real wisdom from the Buddhist teachings. Fernando starts by defusing the pernicious belief that anyone is somehow responsible for their illness: you're not "wrong" for being sick. Then, having gotten past self-blame, one can begin to learn self-kindness. From there, one moves to mindfulness practices and cultivating body awareness?even if body awareness is distasteful when the body isn't behaving the way you like. Further topics include getting intimate with dark emotions (fear, despair, the scary future, frustration, grief, etc.), learning equanimity (rejoicing in the good fortune of those who don't share your suffering), cultivating healthy relationships in the midst of everything, and practical advice for living with pain. Each chapter comes with one or more practices or guided meditations for putting the teachings into practice"--from publisher.

This book takes an integrated approach to pain rehabilitation and combines pain science, rehabilitation and yoga with evidence-based approaches from respected contributors. They demonstrate how to integrate the concepts, philosophies and practices of yoga and pain science in working with people in pain. The book expounds on the movement to a more patient-valued, partnership-based biopsychosocial-spiritual model of healthcare in which the patient is an active and empowered participant, as opposed to a model in which the healthcare provider is 'fixing' the passive patient.

Abstract
Pathological Demand Avoidance Syndrome (PDA) is a developmental disorder that is being increasingly recognized as part of the autism spectrum. The main characteristic is a continued resistance to the ordinary demands of life through strategies of social manipulation, which originates from an anxiety-driven need to be in control.
This straightforward guide is written collaboratively by professionals and parents to give a complete overview of PDA. Starting with an exploration into the syndrome, it goes on to answer the immediate questions triggered when a child is first diagnosed, and uses case examples throughout to illustrate the impact of the condition on different areas of the child's life. Early intervention options and workable strategies for managing PDA positively will make day-to-day life easier for the child, their family and peers. New problems faced in the teenage years and how to assist a successful transition from adolescence to adulthood are also tackled. The book concludes with a valuable resources list.
Full of helpful guidance and support, this user-friendly introductory handbook is essential reading for families, carers and anyone who knows a child with PDA

Abstract
An empowering approach to managing stress quickly and effectively during a high-risk pregnancy
.
Not enough women are told how profoundly stress impacts their pregnancy, especially if they are high-risk--but the truth is that stress, if left unmanaged, becomes a serious risk factor for pregnancy complications from preeclampsia and gestational diabetes to preterm labor and poor blood flow to the baby. In this cutting-edge resource--the first of its kind meant specifically for women with high-risk pregnancies--Parijat Deshpande explains why effective stress management is a critical component to prenatal care in order to manage and prevent pregnancy complications. Through peer-reviewed, evidence-based research, powerful true stories and Parijat's compelling personal journey through a very high-risk pregnancy, Pregnancy Brain presents a groundbreaking understanding of the effects of stress and stress management on pregnancy and fetal health and empowers women to take charge of their health and lower their risk of pregnancy complications and preterm birth.
In a refreshingly down-to-earth book, Pregnancy Brain shows:
* How mental and emotional stress translate into physiological changes during pregnancy predisposing you to pregnancy complications
*The power of a self-repair mechanism that's naturally built into your body can help manage and prevent pregnancy complications
*The difference between anxiety and fear and why that matters for pregnancy health
*How reshaping your relationship and experience of your body can turn off the stress response (which underlies pregnancy complications)
*How trusting the "early warning whispers" from your body can impact the course of your pregnancy
*How to build a rock-solid medical team that alleviates--instead of exacerbates--anxiety
By the end of of Pregnancy Brain, you'll find a radical new model for stress management for a healthy pregnancy. You'll understand how much power your body has to help you get through your high-risk pregnancy and how you can help your body stay pregnant as long as possible. Through gentle exercises and tools designed to swiftly manage your stress, Pregnancy Brain offers hope for creating miracles during a complicated pregnancy.

Abstract
What does it mean to be nourished?
Nothing could be more basic than food. However, food is only one part of the concept of nourishment, but it has consumed our focus and eclipsed something far more critical for thriving - connection. We have lost sight of the fact that feeding our families is about human relationship and emotional well-being.
In Nourished, developmental and relational clinical counsellor Dr. Deborah MacNamara shows us how feeding is part of the caretaking relationship and cannot be separated from it. Informed by attachment science, developmental psychology, neuroscience, and research on human emotion, Nourished reframes our approach to providing for our kids and helps us hit the reset button on our relationship with food. After reading this seminal work, it will be impossible to ever view food as just plain food again.
As parents we need our kids to be receptive to what we offer but the road to the stomach must go through the heart. As relational and emotional creatures, our deepest hunger is one that food by itself cannot fill. In this book, Dr. MacNamara gives us the keys to transform the everyday act of feeding our children (and other loved ones) into a most fulfilling and nourishing dance of attachment. Based on developmental and relational science, qualitative research with families, counselling parents, and her own experience as a mother, in Nourished, MacNamara combines storytelling with science and puts food in its rightful place.

Abstract
"Drawing on her own deeply personal experiences, Ania Bula explores what it is like to live with unseen chronic disabilities. She paints a vibrant picture of what it is like to be diagnosed with two life-long debilitating conditions as a young adult and relates the challenges and frustrations of dealing with predatory alternative medicine practitioners, arrogant doctors, indifferent bureaucracies, and well-meaning friends and family who always seem to say either the wrong thing-or nothing at all. As she discovered, suddenly everyone's aunt is a health expert and everyone's fad diet a cure. Making matters worse, her physical torment quickly translated into mental stresses. Relationships became strained, while others, including all-important romantic ones, never had a chance to start at all. Wading through a constant stream of ignorance and lies, in a desperate attempt to find peace, to stop the pain, and to return to a more normal life, she submits to being stuffed with powders and magic potions, poked and prodded, and even "faith healed." With honesty and humor, she shares her journey of pain, suffering, and, ultimately, coping, both to help others gain some understanding about what it is like to live with chronic illness-and to help those who might similarly suffer feel less alone, so that they too might start living again.
"Drawing on the author's personal experiences with her own physical and mental health struggles, the book explores what it is like to live with chronic disabilities as a young adult"-- Provided by publisher
