Abstract
Thoroughly revised and updated with the latest research and methodologies, the fourth edition of the classic guide written specifically for parents, friends, and caregivers of individuals with eating disorders.
For more than thirty years, this classic guide has been an essential resource for the ?silent sufferers??those affected by a loved one?s eating disorder. This revised edition put family and friends at the center of the treatment process, providing the latest information on the methods and practices available to facilitate the recovery process.
Surviving an Eating Disorder is the first book for family and friends to use a psychological perspective to understand eating disorders. Other treatment manuals or self-help books propose change but Surviving is the first to consider why change can be so hard for everyone involved. The factors that can hinder progress are discussed and the methods that can work are emphasized. *Illustrated with case examples, this fourth edition explains the latest treatments and provides the necessary tools to carefully evaluate what can be most effective for each reader?s individual care. The authors offer concrete advice and support, urging readers to care for both themselves and their relationships as they support their loved ones struggling with food and eating issues.

Abstract
Eating disorders in the family can make meal times extremely difficult for youth, parents, and siblings. This video demonstrates strategies that can be used before, during, and after meals to provide structure and support for youth with eating disorders. The strategies presented in this video are supported by research and can help meal times go more smoothly, with less anxiety and fewer arguments, and at the same time, help youth to complete their meals.
Parents and caregivers share their experiences with four stages of providing meal support: meal planning, meal preparation, supported eating, and post meal.
The video includes scenarios demonstrating how parents and caregivers can use the strategies presented to provide structure and support during meal times to youth at home.

Abstract
Family Based Treatment (FBT) is viewed as the gold standard in treating adolescent Anorexia Nervosa and it currently produces the best evidence-based outcomes. However, the treatment is intensive and many parents commence unprepared despite their courage and willingness to take on the task of refeeding their ill child to health. Parents have desperately asked for more information to help them understand anorexia?s grip on their child and to survive the intensity of the treatment. This book was written to give these parents the tools to help them ?see it through? to the end.
This skills-based manual clearly explains the treatment, providing invaluable information to help parents through each component. It outlines the obstacles and all the anorexic behaviors that will impede treatment and recovery. The aim of this manual is to ensure parents remain one step ahead of anorexia and that they ?hit the ground running.?
This book is a valuable resource for parents commencing FBT and for parents struggling during treatment. It offers clear, practical advice and empowers parents to confront whatever the illness throws at them. It is also an important resource for clinicians and will help them guide their families through treatment.

Abstract
This innovative and easy-to-implement visual approach demonstrates balanced meals with the optimal ratio of nutrients. The plate-by-plate method is rooted in the leading psychological approach to ED, family-based treatment (FBT), which enables parents to treat their child at home rather than send them to an expensive in-patient program. Paired with therapy, this essential guide covers everything parents need to know about nutrition, plus the warning signs and potential health risks, how to talk about weight changes and set goals for treatment, and how to incorporate structure at mealtimes.

Abstract
The book illustrates how parents who are participating in family-based treatment (FBT) for their child's eating disorder (ED) may enhance their chances of achieving optimal outcomes for their child by more successfully navigating the challenges that often impede progress in treatment and recovery. The stance of the book is transdiagnostic, so that the information provided spans all ED diagnoses including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder, and atypical ED presentations as well as conditions that fall outside current diagnostic criteria. This book helps parents to identify how they can make the most of FBT therapy no matter which ED symptoms their child experiences. Case vignettes across the diagnostic and clinical spectrum are used throughout the book, not only to illustrate examples of some specific challenges families face, but to help parents normalize the emotions they may feel around their experience of trying to help their child and around their experience of participating in the FBT intervention itself.

Abstract
This book answers common questions about eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder, as well as a newly described condition, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID). Practical yet authoritative, the book defines the eating disorders, explains what we know about them based on the latest science, and describes how treatment works. *Importantly, the book dispels common myths about eating disorders, such as the notion that they occur only amongst the affluent, that they affect only girls and women, or that they simply result from environmental factors such as the fashion industry and society's obsession with thinness. In reality, as the book explains, there is substantial evidence that eating disorders are brain-based illnesses that do not discriminate, and that they have been around for a very long time. Eating Disorders: What Everyone Needs to Know is essential reading for those seeking authoritative and current information about these often misunderstood illnesses.

Abstract
"As parents, we worry about our children - about their physical health, performance at school, the types of friends they have, and, of course, their mental health. Every day seems to bring new and expanding issues and disorders and troubling statistics about the rise of mental illness in children and teens. It's usually obvious what to do for physical injuries like broken bones, but when it comes to our children's mental health, the answers are much less clear, and sometimes even contradictory.
"Pier Bryden and Peter Szatmari, top child and adolescent psychiatrists, are here to help. Using their combined six decades working with families and kids - and their own experiences as parents - they break down the stigma of mental health illness and walk parents through the warning signs, risk factors, prevention strategies, and the process of diagnosis and treatment for mental health challenges arising from: anxiety, substance use disorders, eating disorders, sleep disorders, depression, trauma, suicidal thoughts and behaviors, psychosis, ADHD, and autism.
"The most important thing to remember as a parent is that you and your child are not alone and there is a lot you can do to improve your child's mental health. The road ahead isn't always easy or straightforward, but start here to learn how to advocate for your child's well-being"--from the inside front cover.

Abstract

Abstract
My Kid is Back explains how family-based treatment can greatly reduce the severity of anorexia nervosa in children and adolescents, allowing the sufferer to return to normal eating patterns, and their families to return to normal family life.
In this book, ten families share their experiences of living with anorexia. Parents describe their frustrations in seeking help for their child and dealing with their behaviour and sufferers discuss how the illness gets into their mind and takes over their personality.
By focusing on the Maudsley family approach and expert advice from Professor Daniel Le Grange, and including clear lists of illness symptoms, strategies for parents and carers to follow, and information on getting further treatment and support, this book proves an essential resource for families who want to win the battle with anorexia nervosa.

Abstract
In Helping Your Child with Extreme Picky Eating, a family doctor specializing in childhood feeding joins forces with a speech pathologist to help you support your child's nutrition, healthy growth, and end meal-time anxiety (for your child and you) once and for all.
Helping Your Child with Extreme Picky Eating offers hope, even if your child has "failed" feeding therapies before. After gaining a foundation of understanding of your child's challenges and the dynamics at play, you'll be ready for the 5 steps (built around the clinically proven STEPS+ approach - Supportive Treatment of Eating in PartnershipS) that transform feeding and meals so your child can learn to enjoy a variety of foods in the right amounts for healthy growth. You'll discover specific strategies for dealing withanxiety, low appetite, sensory challenges, autism spectrum-related feeding issues, oral motor delay, and medically-based feeding problems. Tips and exercises reinforce what you've learned, and dozens of "scripts" help you respond to your child in the heat of the moment, as well as to others in your child's life (grandparents or your child's teacher) as you help them support your family on this journey. This book will prove an invaluable guide to restore peace to your dinner tableand help you raise a healthy eater.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract
Today's media-saturated teenagers are bombarded with mixed messages that distort their self-image and lead many to overeat and others to starve themselves. When "I feel fat" becomes a teen's common refrain, how can worried parents respond constructively? With this book, Dr. Dianne Neumark-Sztainer shows parents how to strike the difficult balance between bolstering self-esteem and offering constructive advice. Drawing on her study, Project EAT (Eating Among Teens), and her experience as a mother of four, Neumark-Sztainer offers science-based, practical ideas for instilling healthy eating and exercise habits, educating teens about nutrition and portion size, and talking about body image. Here is a foundation that parents can build on to help their teens stay fit, eat well, and feel good about their looks in a world where too-perfect bodies are used to sell everything from cosmetic surgery to fast food.

Abstract
This book challenges the conventional belief that parents must get overweight children to eat less and exercise more. In the long run, she says, making them go hungry and forcing them to be active makes children preoccupied with food, prone to overeating, turned off to activity, and likely to gain too much weight. Instead, it states that, "to resolve the problem of child overweight, we must do the opposite of what seems right. We must feed children rather than depriving them."

You're focused on ensuring your child gets the best possible treatments for their symptoms, so it's easy to overlook or dismiss the impact the illness can have on your relationships and emotions. This book places your psychological well-being front and center, so you can be the best caregiver possible for your child.
Along with suggestions for making laughter and mindfulness part of your daily self-care routine, it offers guidance for choosing the right therapist for your family, should extra support be needed. Every family's journey with chronic illness is unique, but you don't have to go it alone.

Abstract
Traditional and classic recipes that will be enjoyed by anyone who is affected by or is managing diabetes.
These recipes are not only delicious and suitable for individuals managing diabetes, they can also be enjoyed by the whole family. Home cooks often feel they must prepare separate meals for individuals with diabetes because of diabetics' many dietary restrictions. Using the American exchanges-per-serving information in this book, it's easy to prepare dishes that will satisfy everyone and that also comply with the limitations of a diabetic diet.
Zeiler uses readily available ingredients and includes old family favorites along with other food ideas, many with new and slightly different twists. She emphasizes quick and easy-to-prepare dishes that are ideally suited to today's busy lifestyle.
There are recipes for every meal and every occasion, including menus that make meal planning even easier. The recipes include:
- Appetizers
- Beverages
- Sauces and other basics
- Soups and salads
- Vegetables and side dishes
- Meat, fish and poultry
- One-dish meals
- Meatless dishes
- Breads, muffins and cookies
- Desserts
- Preserves and pickles
Each recipe has also been kitchen-tested to meet the Canadian Diabetes Association's very high standards of quality and appeal.
