Abstract
When there's a child with a disability in the family, how are normally developing siblings affected? According to Kate Strohm, a counselor and health educator, siblings of people with disabilities face particular emotional challenges that are often overlooked. Able siblings commonly struggle with feelings of isolation, grief, anger, and anxiety?and these and other emotional issues can have lifelong effects. [paragraph rephrased from publisher's version]
Being the Other One is based on the author's own experience (as a sibling of a sister with cerebral palsy) and on extensive interviews she conducted with siblings of all ages. In clear and compassionate terms, Strohm explores the often secret feelings of siblings and offers valuable strategies for coping with the challenges they face.
Being the Other One reveals the difficulties faced by siblings at all stages of life, from early childhood through adulthood, when siblings must often assume responsibility for the care of their disabled brothers and sisters. Though the book looks honestly at the many challenges that siblings face, it is full of encouragement and practical strategies. Strohm emphasizes that when siblings are able to clearly identify and openly express their feelings and concerns - and when parents and health professionals offer the needed support - siblings can thrive. This book includes writing exercises for personal exploration and a substantial resources section listing helpful books, organizations, and websites.

Abstract
A clinical practice framework, the Hypotonia Wheel, was developed during an international project to support the development of intervention strategies for infants and young children with neuromotor disabilities in Guangzhou, China. This practice framework was developed to guide therapists' intervention choices to encourage the gross motor abilities of infants and children (0-3 years) exhibiting hypotonia and gross motor delays. The goal was to provide a practice framework that aligned with contemporary interest in activity-focused intervention approaches and that considered both a child's abilities and the influence of environmental context in the achievement of gross motor skills.
The Hypotonia Wheel and Guide may be useful for therapists, therapy students and early intervention providers who work with infants and young children with hypotonia. The process used to design the Hypotonia Wheel could be used as a template to develop intervention guidelines for other clinical conditions.

Abstract
"The vast majority of physical injuries incurred by active people begin with muscular injuries that are not addressed by the conventional medical approach to orthopedic care. Injuries of this type are generally too minor to warrant splinting, casting, or medication and often do not prevent participation in physical activities. They do, however, produce noticeable discomfort and, over time, frequently lead to more severe injuries.
"In Trigger Point Self-Care Manual Donna Finando presents methods for the healing and prevention of musculature injuries. She identifies the causes of and remedies for areas of muscular tightness and restriction and details many self-care techniques, including precise self-massage, stretching, and the use of wet heat and/or ice. In the fully illustrated reference section, organized by body part, she identifies the pain associated with trigger points in each muscle of the body and provides instructions for palpating, treating, and stretching the muscle in order to release it"--from the back cover.

Abstract
Becoming A Superhero provides young children specific coping skills that will build their sense of resiliency and reduce PTSD symptoms. This book can be used both as prevention and intervention when working with children who have experienced a traumatic event. Becoming A Superhero is based on proven, research based techniques such as psychoeducation about trauma and emotion identification, the development of coping skills and affect regulation, and mindfulness activities. These components are based on cognitive and behavioral interventions such as Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, TARGET-Trauma, and Affect Regulation, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Becoming A Superhero includes bibliotherapy techniques that have been identified by research to help the book be more attractive and useful to children. A separate chapter provides methods of adapting this book to the child?s developmental level and alternative skill-building activities. Becoming A Superhero is an excellent way to open a discussion between the therapist, the parent, and the child.

Abstract
In this groundbreaking book, Dr. Karen Pape tells the story of how some children with early brain damage astounded everyone around them. The brain injury they suffered at or near birth had led to motor problems such as the awkward gait we associate with cerebral palsy. Yet they were able to run, kick a soccer ball, tap dance, and play tennis. This was not supposed to happen. It ran counter to the prevailing belief that the brain is hardwired and fixed. When Dr. Pape first shared her remarkable findings, she ran into fierce opposition from mainstream medicine. Yet this courageous neonatologist didn't back down.
In her clinical practice, Pape helped many young brain-damaged children to significantly improve their movement. It led her to ask why some of them could run but not walk with the same ease. Her answer was astounding: By the time they learned to run, their brains had healed. The awkward walking gait was actually a bad habit acquired while the brain was still damaged.
This is the power and the beauty of neuroplasticity, the brain?s amazing ability to change and heal. It has revolutionized the treatment of adults who suffer stroke. Now, for the first time, this remarkable book shows that children with a brain injury at or near birth can get better, too. These stories of children?s recovery and improvements are a revelation―surprising, inspiring, and illuminating. They offer real hope for some of the world?s most vulnerable children and a better understanding of how the baby brain grows and recovers.

Abstract
This book offers a road map to making sense of young children, and is what every toddler, preschooler, and kindergartner wishes we understood about them.
Baffling and beloved, with the capacity to go from joy to frustration in seconds, young children are some of the most misunderstood people on the planet. Parents and caregivers struggle with these little ones, who are known for their extreme behaviour, from tantrums, resistance, and aggression to separation anxiety, bedtime protests, and not listening. The key to understanding youngsters lies in realizing that their challenging behaviour is not personal, nor is it a disorder or deficit.
Based on science and the relational developmental approach of renowned psychologist and bestselling author Gordon Neufeld, Rest, Play, Grow reveals how critical adults are in shaping the conditions to ensure young children flourish.
This is the story of how young children develop, from their intense need for attachment and the vital importance of play to discipline that preserves growth. Engagingly written, with compassion for its subjects and rich with stories from them and their parents, Rest, Play, Grow will forever change the way you think of the preschoolers in your life.

Abstract
Caring for young children is one of the most challenging tasks an adult will ever face. No matter how much you love your child, there will be moments filled with frustration, anger, and even desperation. There will also be questions: Why does my four-year-old deliberately lie to me? Why is everything a struggle with my three-year-old? Should I ever spank my preschooler when she is disobedient? Over the years, millions of parents have come to trust the Positive Discipline series and its common-sense approach to child-rearing.
This revised and updated fourth edition includes a new chapter on the importance of play and outdoor experiences on child development, along with new information on school readiness, childhood brain growth, and social/emotional learning. You'll also find practical solutions for how to:
- Teach appropriate social skills at an early age
- Avoid the power struggles that often come with mastering sleeping, eating, and potty training
- See misbehavior as an opportunity to teach nonpunitive discipline--not punishment
