Abstract
When children (under age 12) engage in sexual behaviours it is sometimes difficult to decide when the behaviour is natural and healthy, and when it may be an indication of some distress or disturbance. This booklet provides a definition of natural and healthy childhood sexual behaviours and then contrasts this with twenty characteristics of problematic sexual behaviors in young children. Charts describe children's "natural and healthy" sexual behaviors, behaviors "of concern" and those in need of professioal evaluation. Information is provided on how and where to look for help of an evaluation seems warranted. A continuum of chilldhood sexual behaviors, from natural and healty to children who sexually offend, is described.

Abstract
Sexual health and sexuality can be difficult subjects for parents and caregivers to broach with autistic children, made more challenging when children are at the severe end of the autism spectrum. Some parents may even question the validity of teaching sexuality to those who are severely autistic. This handbook guides you through the process of teaching about sex and sexuality, offers to answer questions such as: Why is it necessary to teach this subject to my severely autistic child? When is the right time to start talking about these issues? How detailed and explicit should I be? What methods are most appropriate? It addresses male and female issues separately and covers public and private sexual behaviours, sexual abuse, cross-gender teaching and liaising with school, in addition to the more obvious areas such as physical changes and menstruation.

Abstract
In-the-moment problem solving is a complex process! In this storybook, we define a problem as something that happens that was not part of the plan and makes people feel uncomfortable. Our goal for this unit is to raise our students' awareness of four key concepts that help our students learn to self-regulate as they work through their problems: 1) problems come in different sizes; 2) feelings and emotional reactions come in different sizes; 3) reactions come from feelings, and 4) it is expected to match the size of our reaction to the size of the problem. These concepts all work together and contribute to us solving our personal and social problems.

For the child whose brain is weak in certain social emotional developmental areas, playing with others can be anything but fun! Plus, interactive play is a pretty broad term. Some kids only play with adults. Others are trying to play with peers but struggle to succeed while some kids make it seem effortless. We thinkers! GPS is all about helping you understand more about how children with different social learning abilities engage in interactive play. Then we help you take that knowledge and use it to teach early learners Social Thinking Methodology concepts through the lens of Group Collaboration, Play and Problem Solving (GPS).

Abstract
We help students decipher the social cues to share space, flexibly interact, and regulate emotions during the ever changing world of play or when sitting quietly in a classroom. Social executive functioning is difficult for early learners, especially those with social emotional learning challenges. It involves surveying a social situation, understanding group behavior, considering others' perspectives, motives and ideas, thinking flexibility, negotiating roles or turns, and self-regulating to keep emotions and behaviors under control when problems arise. Volume 2 decodes these concepts into small, teachable segments that kids can understand, and presents them in an organized platform from which adults can reliably teach in a step by step manner. This is an excellent curriculum for all students ages 4 to 7 in a mainstream setting as well as for students with social learning challenges.

Coping with Pain
Abstract
This volume is designed to help pediatric health professionals gain a true understanding of childhood pain. Pain is the most common reason for children to seek a medical consultation and sometimes is the most common reason for avoiding it. Unaddressed fears and anxiety complicate pain management and recovery. This book comprehensively examines children's fears and anxieties that accompany their need for pain relief, and gives the professional the communication skills and words that can help calm these fears. This book is addressed to all disciplines, and is organized into three parts: Part I explores the scientific understanding of pain as a part of children s development; Part II explores pain treatments themselves, their efficacies and how to combine them for therapeutic impact; and Part III uses this understanding to help translate knowledge into clinical practice in three major arenas of pediatric health care and the general practice setting: the physicians office, the dentist's office, and in the hospital.

Abstract
Pathological Demand Avoidance Syndrome (PDA) is a developmental disorder that is being increasingly recognized as part of the autism spectrum. The main characteristic is a continued resistance to the ordinary demands of life through strategies of social manipulation, which originates from an anxiety-driven need to be in control.
This straightforward guide is written collaboratively by professionals and parents to give a complete overview of PDA. Starting with an exploration into the syndrome, it goes on to answer the immediate questions triggered when a child is first diagnosed, and uses case examples throughout to illustrate the impact of the condition on different areas of the child's life. Early intervention options and workable strategies for managing PDA positively will make day-to-day life easier for the child, their family and peers. New problems faced in the teenage years and how to assist a successful transition from adolescence to adulthood are also tackled. The book concludes with a valuable resources list.
Full of helpful guidance and support, this user-friendly introductory handbook is essential reading for families, carers and anyone who knows a child with PDA

Abstract
Why Will No One Play with Me is a groundbreaking program that has helped thousands of children struggling with social skills to make friends, find acceptance, and have a happy childhood.
Every parent wants their child to be okay--to have friends, to be successful, to feel comfortable in his or her own skin. But many children lack important social and executive functioning skills that allow them to navigate through the world with ease.
In-demand parenting expert and former Hallowell Center coach Caroline Maguire has worked with thousands of families dealing with chronic social dilemmas, ranging from shyness to aggression to ADHD, and more.
In this groundbreaking book named one of the "Best ADHD Books of All Time" by BookAuthority, she shares her decade-in-the-making protocol -- The Play Better Plan -- to help parents coach children of any background to connect with others and make friends. Children of all ages -- truly, from Kindergarten to college age -- will gain the confidence to make friends and get along with others, using tools such as:
Social Sleuthing: learn to pay attention to social cues
. Post-Play Date Huddles: help kids figure out what to look for in a friendship
. Reflective Listening: improve your child's relationship with their peers
With compassion and ease, this program gives parents a tangible, easy-to-follow guide for helping kids develop the executive function and social skills they need to thrive.

Abstract
The popular, research-based Prevent-Teach-Reinforce (PTR) model is used in schools and childcare settings to address challenging behaviours in children with and without disabilties. Now, with the Prevent-Teach-Reinforce for Families (PTR-F) model in this accessible guidebook, you can use this proven approach with families to help them resolve their child's challenging behaviour in their own homes and communities.
Developed by top behaviour experts, PTR-F is a highly effective intervention model that helps families prevent behaviour problems in children ages 2-10, teach proactive communication and social skills, and reinforce positive behaviour. In this expertly organized book, you'll discover how to take on the role of PTR-F facilitator to meet each family's unique needs, and you'll get a clear 5-step process for guiding families as they promote their child's positive behaviour. With this comprehensive, adaptable model of behaviour support, you'll strengthen family engagement, set each child on the path to healthy social-emotional development, and improve quality of life for the entire family.
Help families with the 5-step PRT-F Process: Initiating the process; Assessment; Intervention; Coaching; Monitoring. Practical materials include: printable forms (including a Behavior Rating Scale for data collection, Assessment Checklists, Behavior Support Plan Summary, Fidelity of Strategy Implementation Form, and complete PRT-F Plan Implementation Guide), plus extended case examples that walk you through the PTR-F steps and bring the process to life.

Abstract
Parents always want to know how they can teach their children about personal safety without instilling fear and yet still get the important message across. Pattie Fitzgerald has taken her highly regarded children's curriculum and created Super Duper Safety School to do just that.
Written with empowering child-friendly language, the main character Sammy helps parents and kids start the dialog by using simple rules that make sense to children. Sammy explains each rule using a straight-forward concept of thumbs up and thumbs down awareness. Super Duper Safety School teaches children how to be the boss of their own body, how to watch out for tricky people and how they can be safe around people they know or don't know. Also included is a comprehensive Parent Education Guide to help parents understand their role and how they can significantly minimize the risks to their child.
Super Duper Safety School comes highly recommended by pediatricians, teachers and parents as a valuable resource in educating children with an effective approach that works!
